Most of us spend our lives surrounded by clutter. I have a junk drawer in the kitchen, but it’s
never big enough– then I found the “wonderland” of baskets. A beautiful way of camouflaging
“JUNK” while creating a colorful, festive atmosphere.
In todays global economy, it is possible to find hand woven baskets from almost every country in the world. Thy can be African, Mexican, Guatemalan, American Indian or any other you love to brighten your home. The designs and colors available are without limit so its simple to match your favorite patterns with already present accessories. Stores which specialize in multicultural decor ie.World Imports, Pier 1 and even many thrift stores provide sources for your own eclectic tastes.
If you are the ” Organizer Bunny” or short on drawer space, place 4-5 baskets of different height, diameter and shape, in a grouping of your choice, on the floor, counter or shelf unit. Fill with any matter of “Clutter” and enjoy your room’s new focal point. If the baskets have lids-great-your work is done. If not, I try to find as realistic faux flower sprigs or plant branches as I
can and toss them on top of the basket to disguise it’s junky content.(in the kitchen, this would
likely contain wooden utensils, measuring cups and spoons etc. or if you like to see the colors and objects within…ditch the lid entirely. A beautifully woven basket from Nairobi sits on the
refrigerator of my home and has the honor of being the “Bread Box”.
If you are not the “Organizer Bunny” but simply one of us who is a Memento collector, you will be needing a place to store ticket stubs, cocktail napkins from your favorite fancy place, matchbooks and other popular “keepers”. Enter: “The Basket”. Also, what better place to hide stray paperclips, safety pins, scotch tape, nails, screws, bag clips, rubber bands, pliers, glue or absolutely anything else. Trust me,” Baskets ” could change your life …. FOREVER!
